NYJ/NYG HS Football Coaches of the Week

Each week during the season, the Jets and Giants select a tri-state area coach of the week. Each program will receive a $1000 donation from the National Football League, and at the end of the year a Coach of the Year will be selected and his program will receive $2000.

NEW YORK JETS

Robert Hampton – Lincoln HS, NJ
5th year; Career record: Unknown

Hampton, who graduated from Lincoln in 1979 as the class president, now heads up the football program, which after last weekend’s 22-6 win over Hudson Catholic is off to an 8-0 start, the best at the Jersey City school since 1973.

NEW YORK GIANTS

Ken Barger – Poughkeepsie HS, NY
5th year; Record at Poughkeepsie: 24-21

Barger, a graduate of Carmel, ran the Our Lady of Lords football program for three years before taking over the Pioneers program in 2005. He's led his boys to the postseason three out of his five years and on Friday night recorded the program's biggest win since he’s been there, beating Rye 25-20 with a 49-yard TD pass on the game’s final play to set up a meeting in this week's Section 1 Class A Final against Roosevelt.

NEW BALANCE HSW PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSE

Will Crapo – Plainedge HS, LI
Sr. QB – 6'2, 200 lbs.

In his first year under center, the straight-A student helped Plainedge win its biggest game of the year, beating previously unbeaten Lynbrook 42-35.

His career day of 220 yards passing and four TDs included the game-winning score with 1:24 left, which brought the Red Devils back from a two touchdown fourth quarter deficit.

DEFENSE

Mike McLean – Liberty HS, NY
Sr. FS – 6'4, 180 lbs.

A year ago, McLean was playing his HS ball in New York City. This fall he arrived in Upstate NY and has helped lead Liberty into the Section 9 Class C Championship game after its 17-13 upset victory over Sullivan West.

His career day of three interceptions, including two as West was driving for scores, helped the Indians avenge a 32-8 regular season loss to the Bulldogs..
