The Isles won their first game this preseason, 4-2, against Calgary Saturday night.

Dwayne Roloson was very sharp in working just half the game between the pipes. His experience is very evident as he places the puck for his defense and moves it to his teammates at appropriate times. It is early, but he is going to be a nice addition to the team.

Jon Sim continues to play well. He scored another goal and added an assist in the win. In general, he makes it a habit of hanging around the net, sniffing for loose pucks. Coach Scott Gordon must be happy with Sim's effort and scoring.

I loved the way the Isles played in their own end. There was some criticism last year concerning their defensive coverage but I must tell you the coaches are working hard on all facets of the game and they have to be pleased with the team's performance. There was a lot of support down low, and Coach Gordon has been very demanding on that issue.

The Isles did not get a lot done offensively but they did win the battle of special teams. They scored two powerplay goals and, of course, the game-winner was a nice short-handed tally by Greg Moore.
