Rangers 2.88 Nielsen Household Rating the Fourth-Highest Regular Season Game Ever on MSG and the Highest-Rated Regular Season Game Since 1995
Islanders 1.00 Nielsen Household Rating the Second-Highest Regular Season Game Ever on MSG+ and the Highest-Rated Regular Season Game Since 2002
New York, NY (January 23, 2013) – MSG Networks’ telecasts of the season openers of the New York Rangers and New York Islanders on Saturday, January 19 garnered the highest regular season ratings on MSG and MSG+ in more than a decade for both teams.
MSG’s telecast of the Rangers-Bruins game scored a 2.88 Nielsen household rating, making it the highest-rated regular season Rangers game on the network since April 20, 1995 when the Rangers-Whalers game generated a 2.92 household rating. Saturday’s game was the fourth-highest rated regular season Rangers game on MSG dating back to the 1989-90 season when the network began tracking household ratings. The game was also the second-highest rated season opener ever, trailing only the Rangers-Sabres game on January 20, 1995, which was also an opener of a shortened season and the first home game after the Rangers won the 1993-94 Stanley Cup (3.66 HH rating).
The MSG+ telecast of the Islanders-Devils game garnered a 1.00 household rating, making it the second-highest rated regular season Islanders game on the network ever, dating back to the 1991-92 season when MSG+ started tracking household ratings. The only Islanders game on MSG+ to generate a higher regular season rating was the March 25, 2002 matchup with the Rangers, which scored a 1.99 household rating.
Through two games of the 2013 season, the average household rating for Rangers telecasts on MSG and Islanders telecasts on MSG+ are also up compared to the first two games of the 2011-12 season (Rangers: 2.18 HH vs. 0.61 HH; Islanders: 0.79 HH vs. 0.20 HH).
