Just a "Wicked" Good Time

Bubbles, confetti, flying monkeys, oh my!
I can only be referring to one thing -- Wicked, the Broadway musical blockbuster, which I attended this week. It’s kind of like Beaches (one of my all-time favorites) meets Sex and the City in theatre form.
Yes, I’m calling it chick theatre.
Let’s see: Themes of friendship and love abound, check; unforgettable music, check; revolves around the ups-and-downs of a relationship between two best-friends, check. And then there’s the spectacular glitz and grandeur of the whimsical and oh-so-Ozness of the costuming and staging. Without a moment’s hesitation I hopped aboard and rode the gamut of emotion, laughing, gasping and crying all the way through the story line as tragedy transformed into hope and culminated in triumph.
You may be thinking, “No way, NP--that’s too much. Gasping and crying, really???”
But yes, people--that’s what I’m trying to say! It is a must-see! And while I do refer to it as a show that women may tend to love, it is still a show that all people, men and women, young and old can appreciate.
Is it over-the-top? Maybe. But what’s wrong with getting away from reality for a moment and throwing ourselves into a show where the good guy wins, or should I say, the good witch wins (and I’m talking about the green one here)? The show addresses prejudices between the haves and the have-nots. It embraces diversity. It dares one to take a stand for the things that may not always be popular, to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
So go and see it, and see it now! And be encouraged that doing the right thing is the right thing to do.
