New York, NY, May 25, 2010 -- Join MSG network and the Knicks Poetry Slam Program’s most talented contestants as they progress through the Knicks’ world class poetry event. The first episode of “Knicks Poetry Slam” premieres Thursday, May 27 at 8:00 PM and features an introduction to the program as well as the Open Call, where several of the most interesting and attention grabbing poets will share their backgrounds, goals, and break down their poems as they experience the first round of competition.
Knicks Poetry Slam Program was created in 2003 and works in conjunction with Urban Word NYC to reach teenagers by using the popularity of hip-hop and poetry to give young people a vehicle to express their thoughts, concerns, passions and dreams through the written and spoken word. This year, the Knicks Poetry Slam Program awarded more than $350,000 in educational grants and prizes to local students, including four-year full-tuition scholarships and $10,000 in Nike branded gym equipment to each of the three winners’ schools.
The “Knicks Poetry Slam” series consists of 6 half-hour episodes and is produced by East Pleasant in association with MSG. “Knicks Poetry Slam” is part of Knicks Thursdays on MSG’s Summer Block Party, a celebration of summer with themed night programming every night starting at 8:00 pm.
