Super Filly Rachel Alexandra Runs for History on MSG Plus This Saturday

"Saturdays at Saratoga," live from the Famed Race Course, features Rachel Alexandra in Woodward Stakes Race on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 5:00 p.m.

New York, NY, Sept. 1, 2009 – Super filly Rachel Alexandra runs for history this Saturday, Sept. 5 at 5:00 p.m. as she attempts to be the first female to win the $750,000 Woodward Stakes. The Preakness and Haskell winner will be featured on MSG Plus this Saturday during the network’s last installment of “Saturdays at Saratoga”. In partnership with New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), MSG Plus has been telecasting top stakes races at Saratoga each Saturday in August (with the exception of the Travers Stakes). MSG Plus will also provide live coverage of the $300,000 Forego (Grade I) following the Woodward. Jason Blewitt, Eric Donovan and Andy Serling will provide commentary for the telecasts.

Rachel Alexandra is the leading candidate for Horse of the Year honors with an eight-race win streak, and has already defeated 3-year-old colts in the Preakness and the Haskell Invitational. MSG Plus aired Rachel's runaway win in the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park on June 27.

“Rachel Alexandra ranks among the greatest fillies in the history of thoroughbred racing,” said NYRA-MSG Plus TV Analyst Jason Blewitt. “Her quest to become the first filly or mare to ever win the Woodward will be one of the most anticipated races that we have ever had at historic Saratoga Race Course, which spans 141 years.”

The Woodward, won last year by two-time Horse of the Year Curlin,  is included on the resume of more than a dozen other past Horse of the Year champions, including Saint Liam (2005), Ghostzapper (2004), Mineshaft (2003),  Cigar (1995-96), Holy Bull (1994), Alysheba (1988), Spectacular Bid (1980), and Affirmed (1979).
