Before joining MSG, Rob was the Sports Director at WMAR-TV, the ABC affiliate, in Baltimore. For three years, he covered the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles as well as his alma mater, the University of Maryland.
While in Baltimore, Carlin reported on many historical sports moments including the AFC Championship Game, the Preakness Stakes, when Rachel Alexandra shocked the horse racing world, and on the sidelines at one of college football's great spectacles – Army vs Navy. He also spent a year co-hosting a weekly radio show on ESPN Radio, and did TV play-by-play for women's basketball on ESPN Plus.
Prior to his work in Baltimore, Carlin worked at College Sports Television (CSTV), now known as CBS-College Sports. At CSTV, he hosted a number of magazine and nightly recap shows.
Carlin's other broadcasting work includes NBC-13 in Birmingham, Alabama where he traveled to every football stadium in the SEC and covered Auburn's undefeated run to the Sugar Bowl. His first on-air job came at WMDT-TV, the ABC affiliate in Salisbury, MD.
Carlin's talented work has been awarded by the Associated Press for Outstanding Sports Feature. Additionally, his broadcast team was recognized for the Best Sports Special for a 30 minute preview of The Iron Bowl, the annual Alabama-Auburn game.
Born and raised on Long Island, Carlin graduated from Bellmore JFK in 1990. One of his best sports memories was being at Nassau Coliseum in May of 1981 when the Islanders won their second of four straight Stanley Cups. He was nine years old, chanting "But-chie, But-chie" for Butch Goring, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
Today, Carlin co-hosts with Goring the 2009-10 Islanders Pregame Show. He and wife Megan are moving to the area soon.
