Rangers Television Play-by-Play Announcer

Sam Rosen has been calling play-by-play for the New York Rangers on MSG since 1984, and the words he uttered on June 14, 1994 - "This one will last a lifetime!" - will never be forgotten by the nearly two million Rangers fans that tuned in that evening to watch the Rangers clinch the Stanley Cup for the first time in 54 years.

One of the most knowledgeable and thorough play-by-play personalities in the game of hockey, Rosen has worked alongside some of hockey's greatest minds. He worked with Hockey Hall-of-Famer Phil Esposito during his inaugural full-time season with the team in 1984-85, before being joined by former Rangers goaltender John Davidson at the start of the 1986-87 season. He now shares the booth with Joe Micheletti, who joined him at the beginning of the 2006-7 season.

In addition, Rosen works as a play-by-play announcer for Fox's coverage of the NFL, a position he's held since 1997. Since 1996, he has also called the Stanley Cup Finals, the Eastern Conference Finals, and the NHL All-Star Game on the NHL Radio Network.

Rosen has helped lead the MSG production team to several major and important awards, including the prestigious CableACE award for "Outstanding Live Event Coverage" in 1994. This award made MSG the first regional cable network to ever capture the honor.

Rosen has been recognized with New York Emmy Award nominations in the category of "On-Camera Achievement: Sports" in 1993, 1994 and again in 2002. He was also a nominee for "On Camera Talent: Sports Play-by-Play" in 1999, 2004 and again in 2006.

Rosen's accomplishments have been recognized on a national level, as FOX Sports hired him as one of their top play-by-play voices for the 1994-95 NHL season. It was not the first national hockey assignment for Rosen, who also worked for ABC-TV covering the NHL at the end of the 1993-94 regular season.

Rosen's work with MSG started on a freelance basis in 1977, before he was hired full-time in September of 1982. He began his hockey work as the studio host for Rangers telecasts and as part-time play-by-play announcer on MSG Radio. In his career at MSG, the native of Ulm, Germany who moved to Brooklyn, NY, when he was two, has served as host for "The Mike Keenan Show," "The Herb Brooks Show," Knicks basketball, and "Giants Journal." He also called play-by-play for Golden Gloves boxing, WT tennis, Knicks basketball, and college basketball. From 1992-1993, Rosen called boxing on MSG, and won the Sam Taub award for "Excellence in Boxing Broadcast Journalism" in 1990.

Rosen began his sportscasting career in 1970 as a statistician for the Knicks Radio Network and as a newsman for WNAB-AM in Bridgeport, CT. In 1971, he moved to WICC-AM (Bridgeport), where he spent two years as a newsman while also serving as weekend sportscaster for New Haven's Channel 8 (WTNH).

In September of 1973, he joined UPI Radio Network, where he worked until December 1980. Rosen was one of the first voices of ESPN, where he called play-by-play for a variety of sports, including hockey, boxing, table tennis, Australian Rules Football, college wrestling, and college baseball from 1977 to 1988. He also called Jets and Giants preseason football for WPIX-TV and Cosmos soccer for WNEW-AM.

Rosen lives in New City, NY, with his wife Jill. He has two sons, Garett and Matthew, who followed in his father's footsteps and serves as a radio host for the Phoenix Coyotes. Rosen has two grandsons as well, Brendan and Michael.
