Rupa Kotecha

On January 7, 2014, Rupa was driving on the 60 freeway passing through Ontario at 10am, going approximately 70mph in the 3rd lane. Suddenly, a car in front of her came to a complete stop in the middle of the lane.  As she got of her car to see what was wrong, she saw the driver slumped over the steering wheel. When she knocked on the window, there was no response from the man so she opened the driver’s door and checked for a pulse but he was pulseless.  She immediately called 911 because she believed the man was in cardiac arrest.  A few minutes later, a driver pulled over and asked how he could help so he assisted her while they pulled the man from the car to the ground. Another driver pulled over and asked how he could help so he used his truck to block traffic to ensure they wouldn’t get hit by oncoming traffic.  They did CPR for 15 minutes until paramedics arrived at which point the man was transported to a local hospital where his heart started beating again.  It was later found that he had 100% blockage in all of his coronary arteries, and within 1 hour from the time Rupa found him, he had 4 stents placed in his heart. Seven days later, the man was discharged from the hospital in perfect condition.  It was a miracle. He is now 51, and living a very healthy life thanks to Rupa and the other citizens heroic actions.
